Track Your First Inquiry with SlimStat Free
Applies to SlimStat 6.0.0 and SlimStat Pro 3.0.0 · checked
Use SlimStat Free’s one active goal to measure visits to a dedicated inquiry confirmation page. This recipe fits a form that redirects only after a successful submission. It does not verify lead quality or add a native integration for every form plugin.
See the inquiry workflow and sample review before you start.
Prepare the site and confirmation page
- Install SlimStat Free and confirm that an eligible visitor appears in the reports. For an existing installation, review the Free 6 upgrade steps.
- Configure your form to redirect to a dedicated page such as
/inquiry-received/after a successful submission. Keep names, email addresses and message text out of the URL. - Test the form itself: a valid submission should create an inquiry in your form system and open that page. An invalid submission must not open it.
- Review your consent setup, visitor exclusions and retention. Test with an eligible visitor session; an excluded administrator may not be recorded.
If your form stays on the same page, or booking finishes inside an iframe or another domain, this page-based recipe may not fit. A submit click or outbound booking click alone is not proof of success. Confirm a supported success signal for that setup before calling it a completed inquiry.
Create one goal
Open SlimStat → Goals & Funnels and select Add your first goal (or Add goal if you already have one). Name it Inquiry confirmation reached. Set Dimension to Page URL, Operator to equals, and Value to the confirmation path as it appears in the recorded report, for example /inquiry-received/. Keep the goal active and save it. Match the actual path, including its trailing slash; do not include personal data in the rule.
Free allows one active goal. If one is already active, review it before replacing or pausing it. Pro supports up to five active goals and three funnels. The goal builder guide explains the limits and funnel options.
Goals evaluate matching retained records in the selected period, including records from before the goal was created. Choose a narrow test period and note the starting count rather than assuming a new goal starts at zero.
Test success, failure and direct access
Run these checks with the relevant consent granted and a date range containing the test:
| Test | Expected observation |
|---|---|
| Successfully submit the form | The form system records the inquiry, the confirmation page opens, and the goal result reflects an eligible recorded completion. |
| Submit an invalid form | Stay on the form with an error. The confirmation-page goal should not gain a matching visit from this attempt. |
| Open the confirmation URL directly | It can match the same rule without an inquiry. This is a limit of a page-based goal. |
Check Total and Uniques on the goal card separately; repeated actions do not mean new people. Compare with your form’s successful submissions and keep test activity separate from business results. If expected traffic is missing, use the tracker troubleshooting guide.
Check a campaign arrival separately
Use Build campaign link in Traffic Sources (it opens the UTM link builder) to tag an incoming link, such as:
https://example.com/consultation/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=autumn
Follow that link with an eligible test visit and look for the campaign in SlimStat → Traffic Sources. Then complete the form and inspect the goal result.
These are two checks, not proof that the goal has been attributed to that campaign. Campaign reports count recorded pageviews, and tags are not automatically carried forward to internal navigation. Do not divide campaign pageviews into unrelated goal totals and call the result a campaign conversion rate. See campaign definitions and limits.
Make a weekly review useful
Review the same date range for your service page, campaign traffic and goal. Reconcile confirmation counts with your form records, then ask which inquiries were useful. The sample inquiry review keeps these observations separate.
Free can send a one-time weekly sample to yourself. Pro can schedule selected reports, but the sample inquiry review is not a built-in digest preset. Follow the email report guide and inspect the test email to confirm the reports you need are included.
